People want to take care of themselves, they don’t want to be ill and they don’t want to be seeking professional help all the time. They like and read information about health, they like having Rx-to-OTC switches so we must preserve that we must not interfere with it.

Everyone benefits from raising awareness around the issue of self-care. Fundamentally, that occurs in many different ways. The individual benefits because they are empowered and they will realize an improvement in both their health status and potentially their health outcome. Also, it ensures employers and other entities that provide health insurance will potentially reduce overall health care spending and allow us to channel our health care resources on the areas of greatest need.

One of the opportunities we have to improve health care within the United States is to bring about a greater personal awareness around self-care and commitment across the population to engaging in a set of activities and behaviors that will allow us to maintain a higher degree of health more independently than we might otherwise.
