The Fellows of the Foundation provide expertise and advice on a range of topics around the current and future of health care systems and their stakeholders. Our Fellows participate in ongoing research and publishing projects including assessing current attitudes about individual health responsibility and care accountability, and tracking trends on consumer confidence in health care decision making.
John Delfs, MD
Dr. John Delfs is a physician educator and health care leader with extensive experience in medical practice, managed care, medical education, health policy, and media communications. Board-certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and neurology, his focus is the use of knowledge in cognitive neuroscience to empower health care providers and patient-consumers. Dr. Delfs was previously Chief of Geriatric Medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston and served on the faculties of Medicine and Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. Previous positions include Corporate Associate Medical Director for Medicare Programs at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and President and CEO of Convergent Health Solutions. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, he completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Harbor General/UCLA and in Neurology at Harvard. He has served as a Fellow in Health Policy with the United States Senate and is a recipient of the AMA’s Dr. William Beaumont Award in Medicine.
Michael Alan Kaufman, MD JD
Dr. Michael A. Kaufman is a senior health care executive with extensive experience in both Commercial Insurance and Government Payer Systems (including Medicare and Medicaid). His core competencies are in the areas of Business Planning, Regulatory Compliance, Reimbursement Strategies and Healthcare Consumerism. Previously, Dr. Kaufman was the Chief Medical Officer of PacifiCare Health Systems, WellPoint Health Networks, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Inc. Dr. Kaufman earned his JD at Harvard Law School and is a Rand Graduate Institute Fellow of Public Policy. He is a graduate of Yale University Medical School and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Joseph McGovern
Joseph McGovern is an accomplished pharmaceutical executive with extensive experience in strategic management of global health care businesses, including portfolio management, product launches, Rx-to-OTC switches, and acquiring new products through business development. Deep experience at both Pfizer Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline PLC has contributed to his extensive knowledge base of global strategic marketing and development. With U.S., European and Asian health care market expertise, Joe is skilled at creating roles and structure to exploit new business opportunities and is expert at leading high-performing, cross-functional teams in complex, multi-national partnership settings. Joe holds a degree in Economics from the University of London, London, England.
Jim Parker
Jim Parker is a senior health care executive with 20 years of experience leading organizations through mergers and acquisitions, driving market share, revenue growth, and building high-performing organizations. Most recently, Jim served as the Chief of Staff to WellPoint Inc.’s President and CEO, Angela Braly. In this capacity, he worked closely with the senior leadership team to drive successful execution of the company’s transformational strategies. Jim previously served as Senior Vice President and President of the WellPoint Federal Government Solutions Division, and was President of the Federal Employee Health Benefit Plans Business Unit which serves 1.4 million federal government employees and their families.
